From October 6-8, 2017, cyclists can participate in the Istra Granfondo - an international cycling marathon in its sixth edition this year.
This marathon race traditionally brings together around 800 cyclists from over 10 different countries. There are more than 300 members that play a part in the organization of the event, and hundreds of volunteers and members of the many cycling teams across Croatia get involved.
The race will kick off on Saturday in Umag. Cyclists will be able to choose between the demanding 90-kilometer route (Istra Granfondo Small) or the high-intensity 136-kilometer route (Istria Granfondo Classic), both of which will test your strength and endurance. The routes will contain six refreshment stops.
The classic race runs through the central part of the Istrian peninsula, passing through Oprtalk and Motovun before circling back to Northwest Istria. Both races start and finish at the Stella Maris Resort next to the ATP stadium in Umag.
Sunday is reserved for food and family at the Istria Granfondo Family and Gourmet Tour. A 25-kilometer recreational ride will take you around Novigrad - along the shores, the olive trees and vineyards. But the best part? Participants will be able to taste a piece of Istria at each refreshment stop.
The overall event will also include an Expo zone, children’s program, Zumba for kids, bike balancing competition, Wine & Bike Sea Tour, fashion show, rich gastronomic offer and tons of fun.
There are 120 prizes in store for the top cyclists this year and 20 prizes for the best teams.
