Zagreb cyclists will cycle to work this winter in an effort to defend their world title for "Bike to Work" day!

The initiative Winter Bike to Work Day launched in Canada and this year celebrates its 5th birthday. For the 5th edition, Zagreb is committed to win with the most amount of applicants for the third year in a row.

On Friday, February 10, the international day of winter cycling to work will take place, with residents of the cities around the world highly encouraged to ride a bike to work at least on that day, regardless of the weather conditions. In 2015 and 2016, Zagreb had the largest number of applications and a significant crowd of cyclists on the streets, despite the cold weather - and this year Zagreb again hopes to be at the forefront of the race.

A new feature in this year's competition is particularly ranking faculty participation, and Zagreb does not lag behind. In fact, Zagreb is among the top 25 with as many as 5 faculty from the University of Zagreb who choose to ride a bike as a means of transport. Even so, all citizens, organizations, universities and schools in Croatia are encouraged to participate.

"Citizens can log on to the website www.winterbiketoworkday.org to fill out a brief survey and ‘commit’ to riding a bike to work, university, or school at the very least on Friday, February 10,” said Goran Lampelj from the Union of Cyclists.

The Union of Cyclists on this day have announced small incentive and calls to action on as many citizens to participate. “On Friday, in the morning on city streets will reward the brave winter cyclists with Bio & Bio gifts as a thank you for riding in winter conditions,” said Lampelj, who said that the action is also supported by Nextbike.

The Union invites all cyclists to join them on February 10 in cycling regardless of the weather. Remember,  using a bicycle as an alternative means of transport is also environmentally friendly, cost effective and the healthy way to get around the town. Who wants to be in congested traffic with 400,000 vehicles?
