We had a lovely ride yesterday at the Brevet 200 in Čakovec! At 8 in the morning, in the toughest rain possible, around 50 of us started from Čakovec on a route 207 kilometres long with around 2.000 metres of ascent. In the first 50 km we even crossed the Slovenia border three times until we reached Trakošćan, Macelj and Krapina. This is where it gets interesting as from Krapina we went over merciless hills, reaching up to 20%.
So we finally reached Lepoglava and our legs pushed the speed up to 50 km/h, strengthened by previous action. Across Ivanec and Završje we ended up in Breznica and continued over Visoko to Varaždinske Toplice and finally in Varaždin and Čakovec. Other than the morning rain, we successfully dodged local rain showers and were faster than any rain drops that attempted to catch us.
The group was great and somewhere around Trški Vrh near Krapina we stopped for coffee, where the neighbour, a cyclist, brought a full plate of homemade nut bread and cakes to replenish our glycogen supply. She said, boys, I know what you need! Bravo! We had not technical problems and the route was wonderful to ride.
My faithful Specialized Roubaix drove all day without complaints and enabled me a comfortable ride without pain. When you sit on a bike for 7-8 hours, the choice of bicycle plays a major role!
