As of May 16, 2017, Velika Gorica became the 11th city to join the Nextbike revolution - with cyclists now able to rent both electric and classic urban bicycles in the town, reports HRTurizam on May 17, 2017.
The electric bicycles will be charged from renewable energy sources (photovoltaic panels) and will be the first of such example in this part of Europe. Renting a Nextbike will be free for the first 15 days and cyclists in Velika Gorica can rent the bikes from two locations: King Tomislav Square and VG Goričanke.
“Residents of Velika Gorica and Zagreb can now combine their use of public bicycles at train and bus stations (Train&Bike), bringing us to the forefront of well-integrated public transport. This is a small step for us, but great for all bicycle lovers,” said Kresimir Dvorski, Director of Nextbike. He added that by July this year, Nextbike will launch in 5 new cities. Croatia will thus have Nextbike stations in 15 cities and municipalities, therefore becoming the third largest country in Europe by number of Nextbikes.
The Nextbike public bicycle system in Croatia now has 20,000 registered users who recognize it as the best, fastest, healthiest and and most fun form of transportation in the city. Nextbike significantly reduces the emission of harmful gases, noise, traffic jams and parking problems. In addition, biking positively affects the psychophysical health of all users.
