The municipality of Motovun counts just 1,002 inhabitants and unites the area of Motovun, Kaldir, Brkač and Sveti Bartol. Motovun is a destination that is increasingly becoming more popular for active tourism, and specifically for bike tourism. In the area, the Tourist Board of Motovun has implemented three bike paths that pass through the best locations of the municipality of Motovun. In addition, the area also boasts the former narrow gauge railway Parenzana which is now popular for hiking and cycling, and is one of the reasons active tourists arrive in Motovun.
The new ‘Bike Point’ in Motovun was set up by the Tourist Board of Motovun who is the holder and initiator of the project, reports Istarski.hr on 27 December 2016. The other partners of the project are the Croatian National Tourist Board, the Istrian Tourist Board, Municipality of Motovun and the performer Uljanik Tesu Elektronika. The total project value is 90,000 kuna.
Today, this bike point in Motovun is the most modern and best organized in the Republic of Croatia. The ‘Bike Point’ consists of a ‘Go2bike’ stand for bicycle repair, an E-bike station with a stand for 4 bikes, a carport with PV panels, batteries and an inverter with full autonomy, an eKlupom with info panel, and a charger for mobile devices. In addition, this bike point will be equipped with LED lighting and will therefore be functional in the evening. The plan is to also set up a checkpoint and surveillance cameras connected to the internet which will monitor the safety and basic statistical indicators, such as the efficiency of the panels, the attendance point, use of energy and the like.
This new bike point in Motovun is completely ecological and self-sufficient. The goal of the project is to provide better support for active tourists in the new tourist season and offer them greater security and comfort out in nature’s way.
