Route description:
Begin this route from the seafront in Makarska. Go along the shoreline east towards the sports centre. Near the centre go left and uphill to the Adriatic main road. On the main road and crossing continue uphill on the road to Vrgorac. Drive on this road until the entrance to the Nature Park Biokovo. Up the park road. After the ramp and cashier comes a serpentine ascent through a pine forest to the edge of Biokovo. Here you’ll find a restaurant Vrata Biokova. Further on the road west through the valleys of Biokovo to the turn for Vošac. Here you’ll find the mountain lodge Pod Vošcom. Do not turn to Vošac but continue straight and right to the peak. Follow the road to the St. Jure mountain lodge. From the lodge comes a final serpentine ascent to the very peak with the television tower. This is where this epic ascent ends. Return is the same way back. On the way back it’s nice to stop by Vošac for the panoramic view of Makarska Riviera and the islands.
