A pleasant ride through the town of Ozalj will take you through scattered small villages, dense forests, deep valleys, scattered hamlets and vineyard covered hills of its surroundings. The landscape in the village is set with the high bell tower of the Parish Church of St. Lawrence, the most valuable example of Baroque architecture in this particular region.
The route begins on the hill top villages of the Žumberak Nature Park, showing you a panoramic view of the town’s surroundings. You will then cross the bridge over the Kupa in Ozalj, showing you Munjara.
From the center of Ozalj you will descent towards the old town, unofficially the Croatian capital in the 17th century. After the initial ascent into the old town, an easier ride will be had along the Kupa river towards the village of Kamanja, where you will cross the river and enter the woods into the Žumberak Nature Park.
An ascent will be followed by a descent all the way back to Ozalj, with the longest ascent leading you towards the oldest village Vivodina. You will then be met with green hills and the winegrowing region of the area. The steepest ascent will be had on the way to the St. Cross Church in Lović Prekriški.
You will pass through the villages of Ferenci and Škaljevica, until you arrive at Vrhovac. After Vrhovac, you will descend to Zaječko selo towards the bridge on the Kupa river. Here, you will see the stone building of Munjara, built in 1908 and once used as a hydro-electric power plant.
You ride will end as you can see Ozalj on the other side.
The full length of this ride is 33 kilometers, with a 351 meter difference in altitude.
