The third bicycle tour from Vinica to Varaždin Breg is organized by the Association of Volunteers and Veterans of the Homeland War to mark the 26th anniversary of the liberation of the town of Varaždin and Varaždin County.
Varaždin's war period lasted from September 13 to 22, 1991. In those weeks, Croatian defenders broke up and disarmed the 32nd Varaždin Corps of the JNA (one of the JNA's strongest corps). With this action, large quantities of weapons and military techniques were captured, which later armed the Croatian Army.
For this reason, the bike tour was selected to be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017.
The bicycle route from Vinica to Varaždin Breg is also closely related to the Homeland War and links the most important places in Varaždin and its surroundings, which played a significant role in the Homeland War, Varaždin War, and the defense of the Republic of Croatia.
The tour will begin in Vinica, the place where the 5th battalion of 1st "A" brigade ZNG - Tigrovi was formed.
The first stage of the bicycle tour runs from Vinica to Zelendvro where there was the first establishment of the 104th brigade of ZNG. From Zelendvor, the tour continues to Sračinac (Dom kulture) where there will be a speech about the nearby Barutana Military Warehouse. From Sračinac, the tour heads to the barracks "Ivan V Drašković" (formerly "Kalnic Partisans"), which was won on September 22, 1991, with the complete armament of the 32nd Mechanized JNA Brigade and the Command of the Varaždin Corps. From the barracks, the bicycle tour continues towards Trnovec Bartolovečki near Varaždin airport, which was bombed on September 15, 1991. After stopping in Trnovec Bartolovečki, the tour will continue near the monument to the defeated Croatian defenders and towards Gornji Kneginac and the military warehouse Varaždin breg - Banjščina, which was won on September 20, 1991.The finish of the bicycle tour will be at ŠRC Mozdernjak - Upper Gornji Kneginec where there will be an organized gathering for all bicycle participants.
