The city of Pula launched the project "Bičikleta,” the first public service for electric bicycle transport in Pula, back in 2015 as part of the EU project Movesmart. Recently, a new bike station at Verudela was introduced, reports HRTurizam on June 16, 2017.
Until now, electric bikes in Pula have been available in three locations including Giardini, the Pula Town Market, and the bus station. The opening of the new location for electric bikes at Verudela, near the Park Plaza Histria Hotel, is gradually expanding the system's network of public bicycles while contributing to reducing the number of motor vehicles and crowds in the city center. In addition, it also encourages sustainable development through alternative modes of transport and enriches the tourist offer of the city of Pula.
Each of the 4 locations currently consists of 6 electric bicycle stands and multifunctional pylons, whose purpose is to control the station and to inform citizens and tourists. The city of Pula today counts a total of 24 bicycles, but the "Bičikleta" system will expand to other locations in the city, including the bus station Šijana.
In just two years, the Bičikleta system has been used by the citizens of Pula and tourists a total of 4,814 times, riding an average length of 7.2 km, thus achieving significant savings in CO2 emissions. The use of individual bicycles per day is 3.8 times, the average driving time is 1 hour and 15 minutes, and the average use of bikes per user is 12 uses.
The Pulaparking utility company manages the system of electric bicycles, and with a one-time payment of 100,00 HRK, anyone interested can have an unlimited use of bicycles throughout the year.
