Over a duration of 30 days, Hrvoje Jurić will ride his bike each day between 100 and 140 kilometers (with the exception being through the Alps where he will ride between 60 and 90 km a day). Such a cycling project can be classified in the ”ultra marathon" category, where the cyclist must obtain a balance of physical and mental strength.
The route will take Jurić from London to Istanbul for a 3000+ kilometers ride through Paris, Troyes, Basel to Verona, across the whole of the Alps (Zurich - Davos - Fluela - Reschen), the north of Italy to Trieste, a "downgrade" to Rijeka and over Gornje Jelenje to Zagreb. In Zagreb, Jurić plans to take a day off to have guest appearances on television. From Zagreb the route will continue on the Podravina highway to Vrbice, where he will continue all the way to Belgrade. It is just 1,000 kilometers from Belgrade to Istanbul and Jurić will follow the old road to Niš, then via Sofia and Plovdiv to Erdinea and 40 kilometers of Greece which will ultimately bring him to Istanbul.
The original idea was to help several existentially vulnerable families, specifically widows who have recently lost their husbands. Due to the very bad law on the right to a pension (namely a survivor's pension) many of these families spend years waiting for the decision of survivor's pension with very little or no income.
Since it is quite inconvenient to donate money directly to families, Jurić decided instead to help by buying foods and supplies that are needed daily and donate them precisely to these families (in example flour, salt, oil, supplies for the bathroom, clothes washing and the like). In the outline, 2,000 kuna would manage to cover the necessities for a single family.
The goal of the campaign is to raise 30,000 kuna so that 15 families could be helped. If more money is collected, then more families will be helped.
In this way, each donated kuna will be used, and by the end of the trip (30 days) the campaign will be completed.
After returning home, the money will be paid into the account of the "Croatian Adventure Club" based in Split, whose president Željan Rakela is not only a traveler, but more importantly is actively engaged in humanitarian work.
