The UCI Downhill World Cup is looking to branch out a bit in terms of venue locations, with bids from Maribor and the Croatian island of Lošinj currently on the table for 2018.

Lošinj, an island in the northern Adriatic Sea, currently hosts a UCI Cat 1 race but is hoping to go one bigger in 2018. Having applied in August to be picked as the location to host the UCI Downhill World Cup in 2018, with a detailed track review completed by the UCI in September, the island of Lošinj now must wait until the final decision will be announced in January 2017, reports Dirt on 8 December 2016.

The venue is said to have resembled that of Cairns as it’s right by the sea and doesn’t have a chairlift. The track itself is Mediterranean - classicly rocky, dusty and loose.

The 1.9km track has 250 metres of altitude and takes about 2:30 for the fastest cyclists, making it even shorter than Windham, but it does have an urban finish, which would make it totally unique.
