The Croatian cycling tourism story is gathering pace. Identified as the Croatian National Tourist Board as one of the six key sectors to extend the tourist season, cycling has enjoyed a higher profile in the last 12 months, and the international interest is following.
The most high profile addition to cycling in Croatia has undoubtedly been the Tour of Croatia race, now in its second year, which beamed the beauty of Croatia and its attractiveness as a cycling destination into homes all over the world through extensive coverage on Eurosport. But at the grass roots level, several innovative tourist agencies have been thinking out of the box and offering more specialised cycling tours, combining the mainland and islands, with a variety of sailing options. The Daily Telegraph recently road-tested one of them:
