Saturday's bicycle event, third in a row from the "South On Two Wheels" cycle, in Vodnjan's Kažuna park, saw around 210 bicycle lovers of all ages, reports Regionalexpress.hr on May 23, 2016. The cyclists started off escorted by Bike Spirit members and Vodnjan volunteer firefighters from Kažuna park towards Vodnjan, onwards to Guran, following bicycle paths to Boduleri, Orbanići to Majmajola and Kacana and circling back to Kažuna park where a snack was waiting for participants.
The cyclists passed a medium difficulty path and were able to enjoy the rich scenery of the Vodnjan region filled with drystone walls, traditional Kažun field shelters, olive groves, vineyards as well as archeological sites.
Police officers of the Pula Traffic Department and Istrian Police Prevention Unit handed out safety flyers to cyclists to advise them how to behave in traffic and protect against bike theft and if it comes to that, how to make the police search more effective.
This is the second such event although a bicycle event has been held in Vodnjan for the last seven years, formerly known as the Bumbar Bike Marathon. In order to promote cycling paths as well as cyclotourism , the Vodnjan Tourism Board has continued their event, but organized together with a cluster of tourism boards of southern Istria.
The 20 kilometer route took about two hours, while the shorter 10 kilometer one took about an hour. Local DJ Marino Morosin was on call for a good atmosphere.
The bicycle event in Vodnjan was organized by the Vodnjan Tourism Board and the city of Vodnjan and partly funded by the Istrian County Administrative Department for Tourism. The next bicycle event is in Šišan on June 18th, with others coming up in Divšići and Pula.
