Brdovec is a small town just west of Zagreb.

The identification and digitisation of three cycling and two equestrian tracks, the printing of two thousand copies of local area maps, the training of local tourist guides and the construction of nine rest-stops along the bicycle paths, as well as the participation and presentation at international tourist fairs – all this is part of the latest campaign launched by the Municipality of Brdovec within the context of the ride & bike project which they consider to be the key tourist initiative in the area, reports Lokalni.hr on September 14, 2018.

The main objective of the project is the development of selective forms of tourism in the cross-border area of the tourist destination through the establishment of networks and digitisation of cycling and equestrian routes.

Brdovec is a town near Zaprešić, just west of Zagreb and close to the border with Slovenia.

“With this project, we want to promote a healthy lifestyle and physical activities in the areas of cycling and equestrian tourism, which is certainly a recognisable brand of this area. In addition to our municipality, the project is also significant for the surrounding municipalities, primarily Marija Gorica and Dubravica, but also at the international level, given the closeness of the state border with Slovenia,” said Kristina Frković, the director of the Sava-Sutla River and Hills Tourist Board.

“The project enriches the existing tourist offer, which further contributes to the sustainable development of the cross-border area and increases the number of registered tourism subjects in the area of bicycle and equestrian tourism. All these technical steps have brought about an improvement in the conditions for tourism development and for attracting potential tourists to this still underdeveloped tourism market,” said Frković.
